Preliminary Results of the Golden Hour Study
The Preliminary results of the Golden Hour research launched at the end of 2006 has shown that the average time of medical evacuation of critically injured soldiers was around 3 hours during the Second Lebanon War in 2006. This is significantly greater than the 60 minute Golden Hour standard. The patients received superior medical care and responded to treatment. They arrived at the hospital with no deterioration in their condition. Nevertheless, the average time for 50% of the moderately injured soldiers was more than 10 hours. The total time that was taken to the definitive medical care center was an average 15 hours and the following lessons were learned:
-
Asymmetrical warfare infantry soldiers require logistical, medical and vehicular support and should be planned in advance with a massive airlift capability, increased numbers of paramedics, medical personnel and physicians in the units together with more medicine and first aid care. This will enable the medics to treat the patients immediately until evacuation is possible.
-
Fighting against terror groups in urban areas needs critical planning in designating place and time for regrouping.
-
Already one of the spin offs of this research is a MedUAV, that is a Medical Resupply and Casualty Evacuation
